Be on the lookout for the St. Coletta's Legends Car Number 01

Paul Barnes, a UPS employee and race car driver, is sponsoring St. Coletta's Foundation on his Legends race car for the 2009 season. For those of you unfamiliar with these unique race cars, in April of 1992 the first Legends Car was unveiled at the Lowe's Motor Speedway.

For those of you unfamiliar with this car, a Legends Car is a 5/8 scale fiberglass full-fendered version of the famed NASCAR modifieds driven by legendary drivers such as Fireball Roberts, Buck Baker, Curtis Turner, Speedy Thompson and Banjo Matthews. The cars are manufactured by 600 Racing in Harrisburg, North Carolina and are built and inspected to tight technical standards. This is done to ensure driver safety and prevent higher cost of competition. Legends race cars are all race car.

It was in 2007, when Paul came across a meet-n-greet out at the Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, IN with the Legends Car. He raced for 5 years previous to this time an wanted to try something new. Paul liked that it was a sanctioned series and governed by strict rules. So in March of 2008, Paul purchased the car pictured.

As the racing season progressed, Paul began to learn a lot about the car and enjoyed racing even more. However, it was at his place of employment, United Parcel Service, where he got the brilliant idea to add St. Coletta's to his vehicle. Paul has always liked doing charity work through different organizations, and felt that featuring a charity on his race car would benefit the charity more than himself. Paul explained, " This would give the charity a different avenue to be seen and inform race fans about St. Coletta's and the work they do." So for the 2009 season, Paul has set a goal to get the word out about St. Coletta's to all the racing fans, and support special needs people in the process.

Paul's 01 Legends Car will be racing this summer at the Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, IN, and at the Grundy County Speedway in Morris, IL. The back portion of Paul's race car will feature the St. Coletta's logo and name in support of special needs individuals.

Paul pledged a portion of his sponsorship revenue to St. Coletta', however with the rough economic times it is difficult to fine people willing to sponsor a person or team in any sport right now.
