58th Annual Caritas Benefit
"Thanks for the Memories"
Saturday, November 13, 2010
United Club in Soldier Field - Chicago, IL
The 57th annual Caritas Benefit "As Time Goes By" was held at the United Club in Soldier Field on November 14th. As guests gathered in support of children and adults with special needs, they stepped back in time to the 1940's. Upon entering the United Club, guests were transported back to the fabulous forties, while viewing displays of vintage clothing, books and posters.
During cocktails, guests were serenaded with the brass sounds of the era as performed by Joliet Central High School's Big Band, under the direction of Michael Fiske. Meanwhile, live and silent auctions were tailored to feature some of the decade's most interesting inventions.
Later, guests kicked up their heels on the dance floor, as the Al Sofia Orchestra played lots of crowd favorites, while incorporating 1940's hits, such as
In the Mood and songs by the Andrew Sisters.
Throughout the dining room, colorful centerpieces showcasing 1940's creations, Slinkys and Legos, decorated the tables. Attendees were treated to fun forties favorites including mini corndogs, meatloaf sliders and mini banana milkshakes, in addition to a full course meal.
Former NBC Channel 5 Newscaster, Art Norman, served as Master of Ceremonies for the evening. Attendees looked on as we honored Dr. Bennett L. Leventhal, Professor of Psychiatry at the Institute for Juvenile Research and Director of the Center
for Child Mental Health and Developmental Neuroscience at the University of Illinois. Dr. Leventhal was presented with the Crystallus Award, which is offered by the St. Coletta's of Illinois Foundation to an individual at the national level who has excelled in education, medicine, philanthropy, research, social services, administration or advocacy. Illinois Supreme Court Justice, Anne M. Burke, presented the award to Dr. Leventhal.
